sash window repair bristol bath stroud cheltenham

Sash windows repair, renovation, draught-proofing and replacement in Avon, Gloucestershire and Somerset. Including Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham, Stroud and all surrounding areas. N.B Although you can reach us by tel or e-mail (Gary in Bristol & Roger in Stroud) you are also welcome to visit us at our workshop in Minchinhampton.

Our Ethos:

Traditional sliding sash windows have been beautiful features of properties for hundreds of years, but they can often present a variety of issues. Most commonly these are: Draughts and rattles; rotten timber; sashes that run poorly (or not at all); centre-pane heat loss and noise penetration. We can help deal with any or all of these.

Having specialised in sash window repair and draught-proofing for many years (over 60 between the 4 of us). It is this aspect of our work which we would call our core business. The skills, the experience and the materials we supply are of the very highest quality, which enables us to tackle all sash window projects with confidence and give all such work, long-term, ‘no-quibble’ guarantees.

Our understanding of traditional methods and materials has also helped us to develop the best methodologies when we manufacture and install replacement windows. We are FENSA approved too, which means that, should you opt for replacement over restoration, your beautiful new timber windows will be automatically certified to have met the necessary building regulations. They will also carry the FENSA, insurance-backed guarantee for even greater peace of mind.

At Original Sash Window Solutions we recognise that every property and each sash window is valuable and unique. The best solution is rarely obvious and requires a considered approach. We therefore offer a friendly and personal service, starting with a free, no-obligation site-visit and survey. This ensures that all our customers receive the very best advice before making their decisions.

N.B Our priorities align very closely with those of  English Heritage and local Conservation officers. In fact, our approach is almost always approved, and often suggested, for Conservation areas and listed properties, since it is deemed not to ‘alter the character’ of the windows.

Please see what Cheltenham Conservation have to say (esp about draught-proofing on p.9) in their document:

‘The Conservation and renewal of timber windows’

….and this document is from the Bristol Local Government web-site:

However, if you do live in a listed building or in a conservation area, you should contact your Conservation Officer for specific advice and approval if you do plan to alter the character of your property. This would include replacing your windows, even if you are opting for accurate, timber replicas.
